The Blencathra Centre, Keswick,
Cumbria
Made by Threlkeld Primary School. Designed using
pupils’ drawings
July
1994 to April 1995
Mosaic
made by the local village school in nearby Threlkeld. It covered
eighteen square metres in a rainbow shape. The given theme was:
the local environment, including a map of the view from the site,
which commanded a stunning view of the area. Workshops with the
children included: discussion of local issues, research of local
history using relatives, poetry writing, and many drawings, some
from life, from which I built the design. The mosaic was constructed
by the children, who showed a high standard of achievement, and
were rewarded by a chat with H.R.H. Prince Charles when he opened
the mosaic on his visit to the Blencathra Centre
