An artist’s
residency gives the artist a chance to respond very personally to
a particular place. A more standard public commission usually has
a specific theme in mind: a map, the portrayal of an incident in
the town’s history, and so on. A residency, on the other hand, allows
for a more emotional, intuitive approach by the artist.
Rosalind
has done residencies at such far-flung places as the Outer Hebrides,
the North Pennines, and the island of Skyros in the Aegean.
